Forthcoming City Events

The uncertainties surrounding the pandemic have now stepped into 2021, with the announcement today that two important events have been cancelled.

Firstly, the Worshipful Company of Poulters have announced that they have abandoned their plans to hold an Inter-Livery Pancake Race on Shrove Tuesday 2021.  In conjunction with the Guildhall it was agreed that it was not viable to go ahead in 2021. The Poulters’ realise that this decision will disappoint many, but they promise to be back in business in 2022,when the 18th Inter-Livery Pancake Races will be held on Shrove Tuesday, 1st March so do put that date in your diary to come along and cheer the competitors, which we hope will include a team from the Worshipful Company of Constructors.

Secondly, the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, who organise the annual United Guilds’ Service in St Pauls Cathedral, have also come to the conclusion that it, too, should be cancelled in 2021.  They were concerned that the high potential for restrictions on gatherings and movement were highly likely to remain for several months yet.  However, despite the cancellation of both the 2020 and now the 2021 service the Trustees of the United Guilds Service were delighted to confirm that the Trust had sufficient reserves to honour their continuing commitment to the UGS St Paul’s Chorister, without interruption.  The Trust also confirmed that there were no plans to re-schedule the 2021 event but said that it was “with strong resolve” that they looked forward to the Service in 2022.
