At Common Hall on 20 September 2017 Tony Ward was unanimously elected as the Master for 2017/2018.
On 4 October 2017 we celebrated his Installation as Master at our Guild church, St Lawrence Jewry and then went on to Merchant Taylors’ Hall where we held our Installation Dinner. Our Principal Guest was James Wates Esq, the Chairman of Wates Construction. He was accompanied by his wife Laurie.
We were also pleased to welcome Jeff Fuller, the Master Elect of the Tylers and Bricklayers; Roger Poulton, the Master Joiner and Ceiler; Andrew Neill, the Master Turner; Jack Broadley, the Master Environmental Cleaner; Chris Histead, the Master Information Technologist; Wg Cdr Graeme Morgan, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Wales and Alan Mitchell, the Master of the York Guild of Building. Many of them joined us in St Lawrence Jewry prior to the Installation Dinner. We dined and wined in some style, and were entertained by the London Banqueting Ensemble, who provided us with both not only a splendid musical accompaniment to the Dinner, but also a spirited rendition of the Post Horn Gallop.
Our Honorary Chaplain, David Parrott said grace in his own inimitable style and our guests were welcomed by Freeman Paul Hodgkinson, a new recruit to this unenviable task, who managed to include all without reading just a litany of their names.
Some 70 members of our Company together with their Guests attended the Black Tie Dinner, shared the Loving Cup, and partook of the Stirrup Cup on completion of the Dinner. As usual, the whole event was masterminded by the Clerk and the Beadle.
