Welcome to the website of The Worshipful Company of Constructors, the 99th Livery Company in The City of London.

The Company was founded by members in 1976 being granted Livery by The Court of Aldermen in 1990.  The Company continued to prosper and in 2010 was granted a Royal Charter of Incorporation by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester subsequently presented our Royal Charter to us at a Civic Dinner held at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in the City of London on 14th April 2011.

The Constructors’ Company supports Awards and Scholarships in the industry including substantial research and travel awards to young persons.  We continue to set industry standards, most of our liverymen being Chartered Members of their respective professional institutes and many are in leading positions within the wider industry.  We seek always to pass this experience on to those who follow us.

We take particular pride in supporting the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and Aldermen of The City and the work they do in guiding the work of The City Corporation.

Our next events open for booking are:

2020 has been a difficult year for everybody. Lockdown has prevented many of the normal livery functions from taking place and this is reflected in a lack of current pictures of events etc throughout this website.  Where a current photograph is not available we have left the most current similar photograph on the website, and will update it as soon as a more recent photograph is available.

The Master of the Worshipful Company of Constructors 2020/21 is Arthur Seymour.

Arthur is now retired, having worked his way up through the construction industry.  He started as an apprentice electrician, then worked for the civil service, founded Butler & Young with a business partner in 1970.  He finally became Chairman of Butler and Young, by then a large multi-discipline consultancy, with head office in Croydon, South London.  He retired in 2006.

In retirement Arthur and his wife, Tina, spend much of their time either on their 62-foot narrowboat on the canals or skiing in the Alps, where they have an apartment in Arc1950.  He even once skippered a sailing boat across the Thames Estuary blindfolded!

Having joined the Worshipful Company of Constructors in 2000 he became a Court Member in 2005 and Treasurer in 2009.  Arthur became a Warden in 2016 and is now looking forward to his year as Master Constructor, hoping to further the work of his predecessors and help bring the Company through the difficulties of the pandemic.
