A Sea Symphony with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

9 July, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

A Sea Symphony with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

A Celebratory Concert in honour of the 900th anniversary of Barts Hospital, supporting the fundraising activities of Barts Charity.

This year sees the 900th anniversary of the Founding of St Bartholomew’s Hospital (“Barts”) in 1123. It is the oldest hospital in Britain providing medical services from its original site in the heart of the City of London and it continues to play an important and unique role in the City and for Londoners.

To mark the anniversary and build on its legacy , Barts Charity aims to raise £30m to build two world- leading health facilities that will help transform treatment for patients in East London and beyond:

  • a pioneering new Clinical Research Facility at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, and
  • a Breast Cancer Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital Choral Society, known as Barts Choir, is a charity founded in 1965 by nurses at the hospital. Today it is the one of the largest amateur choirs in London, regularly performing a wide repertoire of classical choral music with up to 300 singers at London’s major concert venues. It is an accessible, unauditioned choir led by a professional Musical Director and Conductor. Find us at barts-choir.com

In support of Barts Charity’s appeal and to celebrate the anniversary, Barts Choir is performing a concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 9th July 2023. The concert will include a performance of A Sea Symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Parry’s I was Glad (including Vivats!).

You can support the Barts900 Campaign by buying tickets for this celebratory concert via the RAH website and by circulating details of the concert to your members, colleagues and friends.
