THE CLIMATE ACTION COMMITTEE
WHY SUSTAINABILITY MATTERS
Buildings and construction account for nearly 40% of energy-related carbon emissions whilst also having a significant impact on our natural habitats. That’s why the Worshipful Company of Constructors formed the Climate Action Committee (CAC).
OUR AIMS
- Champion sustainable growth and demonstrate how construction can be part of the solution to the climate and biodiversity emergencies
- Positively influence all WCC activity in respect to climate change and biodiversity loss
- Raise awareness about the work that WCC is doing in particular around sustainability – attracting people both into the industry and WCC membership
OUR APPROACH
- Actively support livery and city-wide sustainability and climate action initiatives
- Collaborate with other WCC Committees, other Livery Companies, the Construction Liveries Group, the Livery Climate Action Group and the City of London Corporation.
- Engage with educational establishments, trade bodies and other organisations with a focus on sustainability
- Run a programme of sustainable-focused events including webinars and site visits
- Publish thought leadership such as guidance notes, communication material and case studies
ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE
- We were the first Livery Company to sign the UK Contractors Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency 2020
- We were the first Livery Company to publish a Carbon Reduction Plan and reach Net Zero in 2023

OUR IMPACT
WANT TO GET INVOLVED?
