Mental Health Matters in Construction: Building a Safer, Stronger Industry!
October 10 is World Mental Health Day. The Worshipful Company of Constructors is proud to stand with the construction industry in continuing to build its commitment to Strength Through Mental Wellbeing.
Mental health is a vital component of workplace safety, particularly in the construction industry. The construction industry faces some of the highest rates of stress, burnout, and suicide. In the UK, construction workers are three times more likely to die by suicide than the national average for men. In 2021, 507 construction workers lost their lives to suicide – nearly two every working day.
Through the work of our Diversity & Inclusion Committee, the Constructors are committed to supporting positive change across the industry. We encourage: Mental health awareness in site inductions, clear signposting to support services, training managers to recognise distress, and peer-led conversations that build openness and reduce stigma.
💬 It is important to say, “I am not okay.”
💬 It is important to ask, “Are you all right?”
💬 It is important to reach out and to respond.
Let’s build a culture where mental health is valued as much as physical safety. Every life matters. Every voice deserves to be heard.
