7th Reflections of The Lord Mayor Gala Evening

20 June, 2022 @ 5:00 am - 5:00 pm

£160

About the Gala Evening

Established in 2014, it is an opportunity to hear a former Lord Mayor of the City of London reflect on their year as holder of one of the oldest continuously elected civic offices in the world, with a history dating back to the 12th century. At the 7th Reflections of The Lord Mayor Gala Evening our Reflections speakers are Sir Charles BowmanSir Peter Estlin, and Sir William Russell, the 690th, 691st and 692nd Lord Mayors of London. This is a first for Reflections, and we are privileged to welcome three former office holders for an evening of wide-ranging recollections in the stunning and historic setting of Guildhall.

Sir Charles will reflect on his mayoralty theme of “the business of trust”, while Sir Peter will reflect on his mayoralty platform of promoting innovation and championing digital skills across the UK, and Sir William will reflect on his mayoralty theme of connecting through trade, innovation and culture. They will feature collective perspectives of their mayoralty travels linking this back to their UK regional agenda. They also intend to highlight the fact that the Lord Mayor’s role is much broader than business, also encompassing key issues such as inclusion, health and fairness.

Reflections is a non-profit event, with surplus from ticket sales, advertising and sponsorship going to charities nominated by our Lord Mayor speakers. For 2022, they are Samaritans, OnSide, Place2B and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. As such, Reflections of the Lord Mayor offers a range of opportunities to align your brand with an event that celebrates both an important part of the capital’s heritage and its contemporary business and community life.

While the event has the office of Lord Mayor at its heart, another important element is celebrating professional talent and inspiring young people to engage with their community and heritage. In 2017, the first professional Roundel competition was held, helping to celebrate the ancient art of stained-glass painting and design, and stimulate interest in its contemporary practice. This has been expanded to engage with young people via separate amateur competitions for primary age children and Sea Cadets in the London region. In both cases, we have been privileged to have the support of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers & Painters of Glass and Barley Studio in York, a leading exponent of contemporary stained and painted glass.

In 2022, once again, musicians from Royal College of Music Junior Department will be performing for guests. We will be introducing the recipient of the 2022 Reflections of The Lord Mayor Junior Musician Award in Music who will be performing several pieces at this Gala Evening.

The combination of contributions to Lord Mayor-nominated charities (in 2022, four have been nominated) and competition with prizes for schools, Junior Sea Cadets and professional practitioners of stained glass adds a ‘giving back’ element to proceedings that meets Reflections’ aim to celebrate civic life and the life of the capital.
