ACADEMIC AWARDS

DAVID TONG CUP

David Tong was a much respected member and Honorary Court Assistant of the Company. He was an Architect by profession and designed not only our Company Badges and Armorial Bearings but also the Loving Cup and Case that is the subject of this award. The Cup is kept in a wooden case that was also designed by David and constructed by PM Michael May.

The David Tong Cup was kindly donated to the Company by David, and is now presented each year by the Worshipful Company of Constructors to a Graduate of London South Bank University (LSBU) who demonstrates the best personal achievement in their final year. The David Tong Cup, one of the most modern of Loving Cup designs and was crafted by the award winning goldsmith John Willmin, who also assisted David with the design.

David was very much a “self-made” man, and he very much wanted this award to be focused on students who had overcome difficulty to achieve their aims.

CONSTRUCTORS’ PRIZE

In conjunction with the University of Westminster the Worshipful Company of Constructors makes an annual award to the highest performing student in the final year of their degree studies at the University. This award is only made to final year students who have been able to gain employment, including any employed part-time students. The student is nominated by the Head of the Construction Department, and the award is adjudicated and endorsed by the Company’s Scholarship and Awards Committee.

Constructors Prize: Chris Anderson

Chris Anderson has shown impressive academic capability by achieving a First Class Honours in BSc Building Surveying. For most of his work undertaken in the last two years, his grades were over 80%. This goes to show just how diligently he worked during his pursuit.

Not only does Chris excel in grades, but he also excels in discipline and ambition. He has a clear vision for his future and intends to use the prize to help him achieve chartered status, proving his commitment to his profession and industry.

This academic ability is complemented with resilience, a strong work ethic, and readiness to put knowledge into practice— qualities that make him the deserving winner of the Constructors Prize and a future leader. Chris’s great performance and determination make him a perfect winner for this prize, and he will do great things in his future and contribute greatly to his field.

David Tong Cup: Abi Inskip

The David Tong Cup was awarded to Abi Inskip who recently graduated from our BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology Apprenticeship course.

Abi is a fully dedicated student and a role model to other students in the course. On top of her study, she has also been working in the industry at the same time. It’s been an extremely challenging time for her as she needs to juggle working, personal life and studying but she perseveres and is resilient, as demonstrated by her massive achievement and for graduating as one of the top in class.

Abi is also very active in all the extracurricular activities and keen to impart her industry knowledge to the other students in the course by arranging site visits and talks through the company she worked with, Wilmott Dixon Interiors.

She has also been recently honoured at the recent London Construction Awards for the excellence in community engagement for the project where she led 18 trainees in educating people on the importance of accessibility and inclusion within the built environment.

Her can-do attitude and professionalism are second to none. She continues to contribute to the course and being a mentor for the current students.

Abi is a role model for her fellow students and colleagues and a rising star in the industry.
