Scholarships and Apprenticeships
SCHOLARSHIPS
Every year, we offer a range of scholarships, some of which are organised and funded in conjunction with other organisations including the Supply Chain Sustainability School and the University College of Estate Management (UCEM).
The scholarships we support include –

These scholarships support students, graduates, academics and practitioners, and promote the construction leaders of the future. Funding can be used for –
- research,
- travel, and
- course fees and projects in the construction industry, including apprenticeships.
The scholarships are valuable to companies who want to develop the potential of employees and demonstrate their commitment to advancing construction. Each award offers a research fund to enable the scholar to produce UK-based research that results in a tangible outcome. It should benefit the scholar, the company, and the industry as a whole.

“The Sir Ian Dixon scholarship has without doubt supported my career development. I originally trained as an opera singer and started working for Willmott Dixon as an administrator, before finding a passion for Social Value and progressing into a career as a Social Value manager.
The scholarship provided a quality training opportunity to upskill. I did not have a formal construction or social value related qualification. This scholarship provided a chance to gain an academic understanding of the construction industry and social value.”

“It was fantastic to be awarded The Journeyman Certificate. That and the skills I learnt during my apprenticeship with Hudson Stonework Ltd at Hereford Cathedral gave me the confidence to apply to DBR Ltd, and now I work in a position of responsibility on The Palace of Westminster renovation project. Simon taught me and trusted me to carve important pieces for the Cathedral such as a complex finial and an ornamental pierced cross. I now have tools, books and the experience from other opportunities that came about from the grant together with Simon’s teaching of every aspect of the job, to be successful in my career as a stonemason.”

“I am really proud of what I have achieved so far. A combination of having a brand new set of letter cutting chisels early on, together with Simon’s support and faith in me, allowed me to successfully carve a roundel for Highgrove. I am now a self-employed Journeyman travelling around different counties, getting involved in different projects and further developing my skills. Tools, books especially Modern Practical Masonry which I now refer to regularly bought from the grant from the Livery and the Apprentice Certificate together with Simon’s teaching have given me the confidence to seek work, talk to clients and successfully complete projects.
