Rebuilding the City after the Great Fire
Having adapted a previous talk given on foot around the City, our speaker Stephen Cornish PhD BSc FFPWS FRICS gave a detailed and very informative talk on the rebuilding of the City of London after the Great Fire.
Constructors, young and old and their friends and family joined this Zoominar, the first of a series which the company and its members are presenting in this new “virtual” climate.
With maps, pictures, facts and figures there was something for all disciplines and ages.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Stephen.
The organiser subsequently received a number of emails of thanks, including one from the Master (Sir Vivian Ramsey) who said: “Thank you for a very informative and interesting talk? My wife and I very much enjoyed it and could see that the massive amount of research produced some wonderful finds. I will have a look at the fire courts as it seems to me that, as you said, they produced equitable solutions between the hard law of the leases and the completely unexpected consequences of the fire. It sounds familiar in these times!”
and from two previous Past Masters;
Tony Ward said “My wife & I really enjoyed the ZOOMINAR, and thank you for such a fascinating talk. We will both see the City through a different lens now . . .!”
and Roger Adcock said “Thank you so very much for your time this evening, your talk was so interesting and full of juicy facts. After a lifetime career in The City rebuilding and refurbishing so many buildings (including Amen Court) there is always still so much more to learn.”
